Link: Blaze Foley – Blaze Foley (AKA: The Vital Album, AKA: The Muscle Shoals Album)

I have been meaning to post this for quite a while, but since it was recently posted over at Welfare Music (who also has lot’s of other great stuff) I will just post a link over there. This is Blazes first album, and also the infamous album that the master tapes were confiscated by the DEA and never released. Apparently the executive producer on this album, Bill French, was caught up in some kind of drug thing and the DEA confiscated the tapes as drug evidence. Crazy…just like most things in Blaze’s life. Called many things through they years such as The Vital Album (the label it was released on) or The Muscle Shoals Album (where it was recorded) it’s actually a damned good album…just like everything else of Blaze that has surfaced.

I will also take this opportunity to mention that there is (finally) a release date for the Blaze Foley documentary “Duct Tape Messiah”…It will premier in Feb. 2011 in Austin. Can’t wait for this doc to come out. Here is the trailer that has been floating around for a couple years:

Good ol’ Blaze…what would I give to see a Van Zandt / Foley concert…

Good to know the documentary is coming out, I was worried it died a premature death. I’ve seen a few promising trailers for cool films over the years on youtube that never got finished (any news on Running Heavy?).

I’ve heard about this guy over the years as if his stuff is the holy grail. Having downloaded and listened I can only say that this is in the top ten worst records I’ve ever heard.

Ha, can’t argue with that. Three of the most regrettable facts in music for me are:

      1) Townes Van Zandt’s 7 Come 11 sessions weren’t properly finished/released
      2) There’s no 70s album of Steve Earle’s
      4) There’s no decent studio material by Blaze

I haven’t heard the new Dawg Years CD, yet, I heard good things about it.
